   (ehl NEEN-yoh) [Spanish: the boy; the Christ-child] A warm, slow, clockwise current in the northern Pacific Ocean that develops in January and February, often encompassing most of the equatorial Pacific, and causing frequently devastating disturbances in the weather of the Americas because of its abnormal temperature.
